Just about nothing is as welcome in my belly as a warm tortilla.

They remind me of all those mornings helping Grandma Stella make the daily batch of goodness. (It was my job to sift the flour.)

But it has been too many years since my last morning in Grandma's kitchen, and the cravings for those tortillas - and all they'd envelop - are all too often met with disappointment.

And yet, sometimes I am surprised.

Such was the case upon entering Burritos Alinstante, which not too long ago opened a space on Albuquerque's West Side.

The restaurant began by churning out New Mexico's favorite flatbread.

It soon blossomed into a marvelous burrito joint. Just about everything on the menu is stuffed inside warm, wonderful tortillas.

We had the No. 3 (a burrito stuffed with beef steak, potatoes, cheese and green chile) and the No. 10 (three tacos).

Most items on the menu are just $3.95 (or $5.15 with a drink), and those that aren't are no more than $6.50 (combo plates). And all meals are made-to-order.

The Cheap Eater's bonus: Every morsel of every bite is made fresh daily.

Just like at Grandma's.
