A 13-year-old girl who reportedly "hated" James Monroe Middle School has confessed to making up the story that led to the lock down of the school today, police said.
The girl, identified as Julie McEwen, has been charged with filing a false police report, a misdemeanor, Albuquerque Police spokeswoman Trish Hoffman said.
"Her family had just moved here from California and apparently she was having problems in school," Hoffman said. "She said she hated the school."
The girl's claim that she'd been confronted by an armed man in black outside a bathroom led police to lock down James Monroe and two nearby elementary schools for about four hours.
SWAT teams searched the halls and students hid under desks during today's drama, according to police and a number of students. Multiple searches of James Monroe yielded nothing.
