SANTA FE — Paige McKenzie is recovering with her parents after being released from the University of New Mexico Hospital Friday.

McKenzie, a spokeswoman for Republican John Dendahl, was attacked and beaten Oct. 4 when she stopped to change a flat tire on her way home.

In a statement, her family said she was encouraged by the support of friends and family.

McKenzie has had several surgeries and has a long road of recovery ahead, the statement said.

Town of Bernalillo Police have said they were looking for a Hispanic man who weighs between 175 and 180 pounds with no facial hair in connection with the attack. The man was last seen running east from the First Community Bank parking lot in Bernalillo.
