Long after Bound to be Read closed its doors, we wonder what could take its place.
At least now we know what will take its space - at San Mateo Boulevard and Academy Road Northeast.
Olympian University of Cosmetology and Aesthetics is moving in.
The school, of which there are 17 in four states, plans to open by mid-November.
It is a relocation from a building on Juan Tabo Boulevard. The new space is larger, so the school plans to expand its programs.
Speaking of things of beauty, another new business has set up shop on Louisiana Boulevard, and it's not at ABQ Uptown.
Paradise Salon & Spa opened three weeks ago just north of Menaul Boulevard in the same shopping center that houses Cake Fetish.
The salon, owned by Tom and Kelly Nguyen, offers pedicures, manicures, waxing and facials. The Nguyens are also considering adding hair styling in the near future.
Staying with our beauty and Louisiana themes, we should mention that the first ABQ Uptown store opened Saturday.
Jared the Galleria of Jewelry says it is the leading off-mall destination specialty retail jewelry chain. (But I couldn't say it often - it's a mouthful.)
Some of the jeweler's features: Gemscribe, a technology that etches an invisible-to-the-naked-eye ID number into a diamond; the gemological microscope, a tool that magnifies and projects a diamond's image on a video screen; and a children's play area.
And, lastly, we have one that is more about inner radiance than outer. . . Crystal Mountain School of Therapeutic Massage is celebrating its expansion.
The school is offering a tour, free chair massages, refreshments, a workshop and a meet-and-greet on Tuesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Crystal Mountain is at 4775 Indian School Road N.E., Suite 102, in the Pinetree Corporate Center.
