Moving from one house to another is hard enough. Rio Rancho has to move into a new City Hall starting Aug. 1.
"To just pick up and move everything — I hate personally moving," said Dick Kristoff, fiscal services director for the city. "Moving yourself is hard enough, and that's much smaller."
Here's a by-the-numbers look at the move, provided by city spokesman Peter Wells:
3,000 boxes
Six vans
20 movers
35,000 square feet: size of the old City Hall
67,670 square feet: size of the new City Hall
23 years: age of the old City Hall
$16 million: cost of new City Hall
Moving schedule:
• 5 p.m. Aug. 7, City Hall closed at 3900 Southern Boulevard S.E.
• 8 a.m. Aug. 7, new City Hall opens at 3200 Civic Center Circle N.E.
During the move, the city will take payments for utilities, building permits and license renewals at 4100 Southern Blvd. S.E.
Staff can still be reached by telephone and e-mail during the move.
