ALBUQUERQUE An 82-year-old man has disappeared without a trace despite more than 20 hours of searching by police where his car was found near the Rio Grande off Paseo del Norte.
Juan Sanchez left his family's home about a half mile east of Rio Grande Boulevard just south of Paseo del Norte Northwest on Tuesday afternoon to run an errand, but he never returned, Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department spokesman Lt. Scott Baird said.
Sanchez's car was found parked in an open space parking area near the river and Paseo del Norte used by hikers. Sanchez had hiked there in the past, State Police spokesman Lt. Rick Anglada said.
A search of the area involving the Sheriff's Department, the State Police search and rescue unit and family and friends turned up no signs of foul play or signs of Sanchez.
Anglada said the search dogs did not show any sign at all that they found Sanchez's scent outside of the vehicle, adding that the dogs would have hit on at least a bit of a scent if he had walked outside the vehicle.
The search was suspended at about 6 p.m. this evening.
Anglada said the Sheriff's Department will be responsible for further investigation.
Sanchez's family did not answer a phone call for comment.
