Imagine walking to the doors of a new high school. On your way, you are stopped and asked questions about your expectations and observations of your new school by news reporters.
With a backpack on your back and a smile on your face, you answer the questions and continue to the doors.
Finding your classes isn't all that hard because as you very well know, the school isn't complete. There is an upstairs and a down. A left hall and a right.
In some cases, Cibola High School is also an option.
But for the most part, classes are simply under your nose.
Block schedule: Going to four classes a day rather than seven is a big change for most students.
Eighty-nine minutes in one classroom can feel like forever to some people, such as myself. Unless, of course, you are surrounded by cute girls, old buddies and an outstanding teacher.
For instance, my eighth period is filled with buddies such as Eric Davis, an outgoing EPIC. Unfortunately, these aren't always the circumstances. In that case all you can do is make the most of what you have. Remember, you only go to your first year of high school once.
One thing to keep in mind is that this is only the beginning. We've only taken a sip from the cup of high school. The possibility isn't creating us, we're creating the possibility.
"You can't do anything about your past but you can do everything about your future."
Ladies and gentlemen, do what you have to, but have fun doing it. This is it. High school. Make new friends and hold onto old ones. If you happen to fall, fall with style. This is the first day of the rest of your life. Make the very most of it.
Brandon Baca is a freshman at Volcano Vista High. He's writing a journal about attending the new school for The Trib.
