"Gossip Girl" (8 p.m., CW) has replaced "The O.C." and to some extent "Beverly Hills, 90210" in my teen-soap-opera-loving heart.
It's set in Manhattan and is so cool with its clothing and locations that my hipness factor grows with every viewing.
The actual "Gossip Girl" is an unseen blogger sharing the back-stabbings and bad behavior at a private school, where the well-dressed kids engage in casual sex and drink themselves into stupors.
Her favorites to follow are Serena (Blake Lively), who wants to put her sordid past behind her; Nate (Chace Crawford), who's pressured by his family to do a lot of things he'd rather not; and Blair (Leighton Meester), a spoiled yet spunky brat who steals the show.
Caught up in the drama are supposed good kids Jenny (Taylor Momsen) and Dan (Penn Badgley), who are really kind of boring.
Good old Dan is dating Serena these days, and they're a disgustingly happy couple with only minor obstacles in their way, like Serena's grandmother, CeCe (Caroline Lagerfelt).
Grandma is a real peach, telling Serena that she is sick and her last dying wish is to see Serena go to a fancy ball with a boy other than Dan.
She even offers to pay off Dan's dad to convince his son not to go with Serena.
Granny of the Year, she's not.
Recently broken up Blair and Nate attend the ball together as friends, much to the dismay of the odious Chuck (Ed Westwick). He thinks he loves Blair, but the downside to that is his nasty habit of date-raping companions.
Run away, Blair. Run far, far away.
"Shopping to the Extreme" (7 p.m., Court TV), doesn't display the true benefits of retail therapy.
It prefers to see the glass as violently half-empty.
The show documents the insanity of holiday shopping frenzy all caught on tape.
Cameras catch totally looney-tunes moments at shopping malls, high-end department stores and specialty shops as people claw, scratch and fight their way through crowds to get the hot items they desperately require.
Note to self: A helmet, combat boots and a Kevlar vest that doesn't make me look fat are necessary for all Christmas shopping excursions.
