You find out pretty quickly that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree on "Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants" (8 p.m., CW).
In this new reality show, mother-daughter teams compete in a series of beauty-pageant challenges in the hopes of winning $100,000 and a set of tiaras.
I've always wanted my own tiara. Sign Ma McBride and me up.
Under the direction of pageant director Linnea Maloney, the women face challenges that focus on preparing them for the pageant show finale.
They will have to brand a "style" for their mother/daughter team via clothing and swimwear, create ways of expressing a point of view about issues in the world and practice for the big pageant dance number.
This is easier for some teams than others. A few duos have pretty much no pageant experience, and your heart kind of goes out to them.
Albuquerque team Andrea and Amanda fall into the "experienced" category.
Their team name is the "Reigning A's," and they look darn good.
I think we've got some solid contenders for the sparkly tiaras. Maybe they'll let me try them on some time.
In tonight's premiere, each pair must try to make a good first impression while introducing themselves to judges Carson Kressley of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," former Miss USA Shanna Moakler and former talk-show host Cynthia Garrett.
Enjoy the throwdown for the crown.
Dinosaur lovers will be thrilled with the one-hour documentary "Dino Death Trap" (7,10 p.m., National Geographic).
The show centers around an amazing dinosaur find by a team of paleontologists in western China.
Led by James Clark and Xu Xing, the team uncovers hundreds of exceptionally well-preserved fossils, including some that were found stacked on top of one another in pits of death in a dry basin.
They discovered 400 specimens and around 40 species, including tiny ancestors of the T-Rex, the triceratops and an ancient crocodilian.
The scientists believe they may have uncovered the missing link in the middle Jurassic Period, when dinosaur evolution went wild and crazy.
The dinosaurs are digitally brought back to life, and the experts probe the mystery of how these dinosaurs lived and died.
Utterly fascinating. If I had been watching it live, instead of on a preview DVD, I wouldn't have changed the channel for fear of missing something.
