ROSWELL A New Mexico soldier who was scheduled to return home before Christmas has died in Iraq.
Army Pfc. Brynn Naylor, 21, was shot and killed Thursday in Baghdad, Bernarr Treat, a Naylor family friend and spokesman, said.
"For the Naylor family, Christmastime now will always be marked by that, but you never want to forget, either, and they won't forget Brynn's commitment to family and country," Treat said.
Naylor, who was stationed at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs, had served 15 months in Iraq on security patrol.
He graduated from Goddard High School in 2005 and turned down scholarships to join the Army, Treat said.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
