I remember going to Top Dog often when I was younger. I loved looking around at the pennants, trying to figure out the daily trivia question, and - especially - slurping up those long, shoestring cheese fries.

Fond, messy memories.

Soon, this generation of little ones - and other hot dog craving folk - will make memories in a new location.

Top Dog, which is now at 4711 Menaul Blvd. N.E., is moving across the street to the west, in a nice new plaza anchored by Loft 47 salon, which opened its doors almost four months ago.

And, when that last fry is slurped, we women will be reminded by a sign outside that we can curb the guilt with a visit to Curves, which is opening next door.

Maestas & Ward broker David Chavez tells us the two new spaces are planned to be open in the first part of this month. In the meantime, Top Dog is still serving things up Chicago style in their old location.

It's always fun to watch a self-made businesswoman do even better, which is why I'm happy to report that New Mexico's own Ann Silva is opening another Bernina Sewing Center.

Silva has long been a powerhouse in the local business community. Her new center, which sells sewing machines, fabric and the like, is celebrating its grand opening Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store is at 10701 Coors Blvd. N.W. (Her other store is at 3101 Menaul Blvd. N.E.)

The weather lately has made many a Duke City dweller wish she could stay home, snuggle up in a comfortable chair and drink hot cocoa.

The good news is, if you don't already own such a chair, you can head over to La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries for their grand reopening event.

The 16,000-square-foot building was recently remodeled - including ripped-up carpet and knocked-down walls. The reopening celebration will be held Saturday at the store, 3750 Ellison Drive N.W.
