Fresquez Productions will officially announce the date, location and opponent for former five-time world champion Johnny Tapia (55-5-2, 28 KOs) later today at Isleta Casino. After nearly a year-and-a-half layoff - and the only knockout loss of his career - Tapia will return to his hometown Friday, Feb. 23 to headline an all-local card at Isleta Casino. In what will probably be his final bout, Tapia will take on rugged veteran Ilido Julio (33-10-1, 29 KOs) of Colombia, fighting out of Miami, Fla.
Julio has lost his last four fights. Tapia is 3-5 in his last eight. They will go ten rounds at 126 pounds.
In the co-main event, Albuquerque's David Martinez (16-2-1, 3 KOs) face Santa Fe's Bryan Garcia (7-16, 2 KOs), who seeks to end an eight-fight losing streak. Also scheduled: A six-round super flyweight bout between Espa¤ola's Tony Valdez (6-3-2, 6 KOs) and Juarez's Evaristo Primero (14-9-1, 7 KOs) and a four-round jr. lightweight rematch between Willie Villanueva (3-0) and Gabe Gonzales (1-1, 1 KO). Ticket info will be released later today.
