Meet a new person involved with Albuquerque's neighborhood organizations each week.

Today: John Pate, Southeast Heights Neighborhood Association

The neighborhood is bounded roughly by Hyder Park to the west, Thaxton Avenue to the south, Valverde Drive to the east and Silver Avenue to the north.

What's the best-kept secret in your neighborhood?

It's an old neighborhood, and it's been good since it was platted in the '20s.

What's one thing you would change?

Less traffic. I wish there were houses that were more affordable for younger families.

What's the biggest change you've seen in your neighborhood?

The biggest change is the aging population of the neighborhood.

What advice would you give to people trying to improve or rejuvenate their neighborhoods?

Make your neighborhood so it surveils itself, so you don't have to rely on police to keep crime out.
