Flags around New Mexico will fly at half-staff in honor of a New Mexico soldier, Army Cpl. Joel Dahl, killed in Iraq.

Gov. Bill Richardson ordered the flags to be lowered today and Tuesday for Dahl, who died June 23 during a small-arms fire attack south of Baghdad.

A memorial service for Dahl was held Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Belen.

He was to be buried today at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division out of Fort Lewis, Wash.

Dahl is survived by his wife, Alia Dahl; their infant son Kaiden; his sisters, Crystal, Angel and Patty; his brother, Nick; his stepfather, Joe Aragon; and his stepbrother, Chris.
