A woman was raped by her boss during her first day on the job, Albuquerque police say.

Her boss, identified as Prestige Advertising manager Hermes Cartagena, was arrested on July 28 after he fled from police into his office and twice was pepper sprayed in the face, according to a Metro Court criminal complaint.

The woman told police she began work at the Albuquerque business on July 28. While returning from lunch with Cartagena, she said her boss asked her whether he could take pictures of her naked, the complaint states.

Back at the office, Cartagena photographed the clothed woman with his cell phone, then began touching her and taking off her clothes, the complaint states.

The woman said Cartagena raped her after she refused to give him oral sex, according to the complaint.

When police contacted Cartagena on the afternoon of Juloy 28, he fell to the ground, began struggling, was pepper sprayed and fled into his office, the complaint states.

Police broke through a glass door and pepper sprayed Cartagena again.

Cartagena, 34, was charged with two counts of criminal sexual penetration.

He was being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in lieu of $50,000 bond.
