Friday was the deadline for turning in enough $5 contributions to qualify for the city's new public financing of elections.

Under the new system, candidates were charged with gathering $5 contributions from 1 percent of the registered voters in their respective districts. That works out to about 300 contributions, depending on the district.

The city will give the successful candidates campaign funding equal to $1 for every registered voter in their respective districts, or about $30,000.

They had from May 1-31 to gather the donations. Here's a rundown of who made the cut and who didn't:

District 2

Debbie O'Malley: Qualified for public financing.

Katherine Martinez: Fell 31 contributions short of qualifying.

Joel Hill: Dropped out.

District 4

Brad Winter: Running without public financing.

Paulette dePascal: Qualified for public financing.

District 6

Joan Griffin: Qualified for public financing.

Feroza Jussawalla: Qualified for public financing.

Rey Gardu¤o: Qualified for public financing.

Kevin Wilson: Qualified for public financing.

Martin Heinrich: Filed to run but later dropped out.

Joseph Garcia: Filed to run but later dropped out.

District 8
