The University of New Mexico women's basketball team will face Wisconsin-Green Bay in the first round of the Women's NCAA Tournament at the Fresno Region in Hartford, Conn.

The NCAA Tournament pairings were announced on the selection show tonight. Game time for the Lobos-Phoenix matchup is 5 p.m. Sunday on ESPN2.

The Lobos (23-8), the Mountain West Conference tournament champions, play the streaking Phoenix (28-3), who have won 25 straight games entering the NCAA Tournament, the second-longest current streak in the nation.

"Wisconsin-Green Bay is a really tough first-round matchup for us," said head coach Don Flanagan. "They're a very blue-collar team. They work very hard and I've seen them upset a lot of Pac-10 schools on the road. This was not a very easy draw for us."

If the Lobos get past the Phoenix, they'll likely get a second-round matchup against top-seeded Connecticut (29-3), one of the most storied programs in women's college basketball, in Huskies territory. Connecticut faces 16th-seeded University of Maryland-Baltimore County in the first round.

"We're just happy to be in the tournament," senior guard Katie Montgomery said. "We wanted to avoid the 8-9 game, but I think it'll be a good challenge for us if we get a chance to play Connecticut."

Flanagan grew up in East Hartford and expects to have plenty of friends and family from the Hartford area on hand to root for the Lobos.

Two other MWC schools made the NCAA field. TCU received a No. 10 seed and will face Georgia Tech in the first round. BYU, the MWC regular season champion, got a No. 11 seed and will face No. 6 seed Louisville in the first round.
