What's he smoking?
Cliff Kincaid, an editor for Accuracy in Media, contends Bill Richardson has been "bought" by billionaire George Soros, who supports medical marijuana, just as Richardson does. During his gubernatorial re-election campaign, Kincaid wrote, Richardson accepted $50,000 from Soros and a Soros entity.
"Referring to Soros' $26 million campaign to defeat President Bush in 2004 and his financial backing for Richardson, now a presidential candidate, anti-drug activist Steven Steiner comments: `Soros almost bought the White House in 2004. Now he is buying a presidential candidate.' Steiner runs Americans for Drug Free Youth."
I'm funny, aren't I, aren't I?
On the "BleedingHeartLand.com" blog, there's an audio interview an Iowan did with Richardson. Worth listening or at least reading the transcript for our guv's version of his favorite joke.
After telling it, he asks his interviewer, "Was that pretty funny?" Then he turns to his staff and says, "Was that pretty funny? You're fired if you don't think so."
Positively stinging
The Washington Post this weekend offered a cornucopia of remembrances on Richardson from people who've known him through the years. Our favorite was John Sanchez, Richardson's Republican opponent for governor in 2002:
"The first time I met Bill Richardson was the day after I had won my party's nomination for governor in 2002 when we both happened to be flying down to Las Cruces. . . .
"When we realized we'd be landing at the same time, we quickly arranged all the formalities and met on the tarmac to shake hands, very politely. And then he looked at me and put his finger into my chest and poked me, and said: `Listen, John, we have to run a very clean campaign. Just remember: Keep it clean.' Three months later, he had spent $3 million to $5 million doing nothing but attacking me."
