Not that serious

Steve Kornacki, a political organizer, writes in the New York Observer that the verdict is in: Bill Richardson is really running for vice president. One bit of "proof":

"Tellingly . . . Mr. Richardson is . . . loudly declaring his intention to shun negative campaign tactics against any of his fellow Democrats. Sure, it's smart politics, especially as the Hillary-Barack mudslinging intensifies. But it also guarantees that Mr. Richardson won't be scratched off anyone's vice presidential list.

Yet another meaningless poll

In what has to be one of the most stupid polls we've yet seen, Richardson stays in the basement in four of the early primary states. The problem? It only polled people who consider health care a critical presidential issue. Under that scenario, Edwards wins Iowa - barely - over Clinton, who takes New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada. Whatever.

I love this guy

The billrichardsonblog.com - which isn't the Bill Richardson blog, just some guy who snagged the domain name before the guv could - posted a pro-Bill testimonial from an unnamed, secret-agent kind of person: "As I work daily with crises around the world, I am a true supporter of Bill Richardson and his quest for the presidency. It has been far too long since the U.S. had a strong and capable diplomat as a leader; particularly one that is not afraid of meaningful engagement with parties that many consider `untouchable' or unapproachable."

Sounds great. But, uh, maybe you should check that "diplomat" thing out with the state Senate. Hey, we're just sayin' . . .

Uh, aren't falcons predators?

San Diego Reader columnist Don Bauder says the Peregrine (as in peregrine falcon) scandal is back to bite Richardson.

"Richardson was on the board of San Diego's Peregrine Systems from February 2001 to June 2002 - the period in which the directors were trying to put a lid on the billowing financial scandal that would ultimately send the company into bankruptcy and many of its executives into criminal proceedings," Bauder writes. "Now, as the Richardson campaign struggles to gather momentum, the U.S. attorney's case against four former executives and service providers begins on April 10 and should make headlines for many months."

"Many months." Oh, how we can't wait.
