The first I'd ever heard of the food at Spinn's Burgers & Beer was that there just wasn't enough of it.

This bit of information came from a group of dear friends who went out on a special night. I, of course, had failed to take into consideration that the group was entirely male and the special occasion was a bachelor's party.

So it was with a little hesitation that I entered Spinn's, owned by Mike Spinn, a Texas transplant and an affable guy who has a heart for interesting wall art, Texas chili and long, long beer lists.

"Order lots of food," my husband advised. "You'll go home hungry if you don't," he said.

We tried a burger ($4.95), some chile-cheese fries ($2.95), chicken strips ($6.95) and an appetizer sampler ($7.95 for beer-battered fried mushrooms, cheese sticks and jalape¤o cheese poppers).

The short of it: We had leftovers. Lots and lots of leftovers. And we devoured more calories than our bodies knew how to handle.

But, boy, did we enjoy doing it. The burgers are juicy and flavorful, and, like at Fuddrucker's, are semi-self-prepared.

A person - male or female - could make a meal of any one of the dishes, which gives the Cheap Eaters plenty of options. (We didn't even get into the section on franks, sausages and brats. We decided to save those links for another trip.)

So, go ahead. Come hungry. You'll leave happy.
