Live long and prosper
The "Out in Hollywood" blog reported on Bill Richardson's appearance at the Human Rights Campaign gala in Los Angeles over the weekend. Besides referring to Richardson as "a big bear of a man," the author viciously outs the guv as a Trekkie:
"We are still eating our salads when Gov. Richardson takes the stage and before beginning his more political remarks, he confesses to being a true Trekkie and acknowledges George Takai in the audience and says, 'I'm so proud of you.' But he does have a bit of a gripe: 'I'm the only Hispanic-American governor and the only Hispanic-American presidential candidate. I don't understand why the Hispanic, Kahn (played by Ricardo Montalban), is always the bad guy!' "
Hey, guv, it's just payback for all those "Fantasy Island" episodes.
Table manners be darned
Here's how reporter Molly Ball of the Las Vegas Journal-Review saw Richardson during a backyard-barbecue event last week: "In an interview, Richardson held a hot dog with one beefy hand and ate while he talked, flecks of bun spewing forth as he spoke."
Oh, sigh. Sometimes, our guy is such an average guy.
Yet another legislative session
Over at the "My Direct Democracy" blog, Jonathan Singer snagged an interview with Richardson, covering everything from Western water issues to Iraq, Iran and Darfur. Richardson also revealed a bit of his agenda for the next legislative session. (No, not this one, but the 2008 one. He's such a forward-thinker.)
Singer: Are you looking to put forward within New Mexico, as a model for the nation, same-day (voter) registration, things like that?
Richardson: In my next session of the Legislature, I can see myself fully supporting that, yes, and pushing it.
On the road again
Richardson was in New York City for a speech Monday and is still there today fund-raising. On Wednesday, he goes to Washington to deliver a major policy speech on preventing nuclear terrorism at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. He'll also speak to the Legislative Conference Presidential Forum of the Building and Construction Trades Department of the AFL-CIO.
Also Wednesday, it's star power, bay-bee. He goes back to New York to appear on MSNBC's "Hardball" and Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart."
He'll be back Wednesday night, but rumors are afoot he'll leave again soon thereafter. For certain, he's in New Hampshire on April 4 and 5.
