With who knows how many TV cameras rolling, Gov. Bill Richardson today will officially announce he's running for president.
The Kates can't think of anything more lackluster - we know, we know, we know already he's running. So quit with the announcements.
But here's the lowdown: the Big Deal is at 11 a.m. our time, possibly to be aired live on CNN and MSNBC. You don't have cable? You're out of luck. Doesn't look like the announcement will be streamed to the Web - though maybe some sneaky blogger will get into the event and pull it off. . ..
The event's location, by the way, was changed over the weekend from the Los Angeles Press Club to the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. The campaign said it was worried it would run out of space at the press club.
The event is an opportunity for Richardson to get on TV. Again. And isn't that what it's all about?
His TV blips in recent weeks appear to have helped. Our guv is up to 10 percent in Iowa, according to a Des Moines Register poll released Sunday. A Zogby poll in New Hampshire also has Richardson at 10.
Cool. Just 25 percentage points more and he'll actually be a contender.
However, Richardson isn't a high scorer everywhere.
According to the blog Web site Mydd.com, Richardson got just 12 votes in a clearly unscientific straw poll vote at the annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Clarksville, Md. The event is put on by the Howard County Democrats.
Obama did best, with 65 votes to Clinton's 61. Edwards was third, with 56.
After today's announcement, Richardson has an evening fund-raiser planned in Los Angeles. His campaign said he has no public events scheduled for Tuesday.
