¿Cómo se llama?
Gov. Bill Richardson must really want to tap into the Latino vote.
In an interview with Reuters, Richardson tried out a different nombre.
"I am saying it's Bill Richardson Lopez and I am one of you and I would like you to consider me, not because I am Hispanic but because I have the best program for the country."
Born in Pasadena, Calif., to a Mexican mother but growing up in Mexico City, the bilingual Richardson often slips bits of Spanish into campaign speeches and events.
Richardson campaign spokesman Pahl Shipley said, however, that the governor meant the name change jokingly in the Reuters interview.
"He was joking in the context of making the point that he's Hispanic, when a lot of people don't know he's Hispanic."
So, the Kates asked if he would stick with the two names.
"It wouldn't fit on the bumper sticker," Shipley said.
Keeping it local, mostly
Whatever his name, Richardson won't go too far to raise money for his presidential bid this week. Turns out he's got some raising planned in Santa Fe tonight and in Albuquerque on Friday.
The man needs more than just local cash, of course, so he'll head to Seattle on Thursday.
The campaign's public schedule is a big blank spot on Saturday, with no events listed. There likely are some private ones, perhaps including some rest, given all of Richardson's events lately.
On Sunday, Richardson will appear on NBC's "Meet the Press" with host Tim Russert.
By that night, he'll be in Sonora, Calif., fund-raising, again.
