A 3-year-old boy is dead after being shot in the torso at a home in southeast Albuquerque.
About 1:40 p.m. Monday, Albuquerque police officers were called to the 100 block of Abilene Avenue Southeast regarding a child who was bleeding and apparently had been shot, said police spokesman John Walsh.
"It appears at this stage it may have been accidental," Walsh said.
The child was rushed to University of New Mexico Hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
A man about 20 years old was questioned Monday, and investigators worked through the night to determine what happened, Walsh said early today.
Although the shooting "appears to be accidental, there are circumstances surrounding it that are what we are investigating," Walsh said.
Even if the shooting proves to have been accidental, charges could still be filed, he said.
