University of New Mexico senior guard Brandi Kimble posted a double-double to lead a second-half charge in a 85-62 victory over Western Michigan in the Women's Sports Foundation Tournament Friday night in The Pit.
Kimbled finished with 22 points and 19 rebounds.
Senior forward Dionne Marsh kept the Lobos ahead in the first half as she scored 11 of her 20 points to help give the Lobos a 38-31 advantage at intermission.
The Lobos trailed 8-3 before they finally got untracked offensively. UNM then went on a 6-0 run to take their first lead at 9-8.
Sophomore point guard Amy Beggin got hot right before the break, hitting a pair of back-to-back 3-pointers to push UNM's lead to 34-22. But the Broncos rallied with a 6-2 spurt to cut the Lobos' lead to seven points at the half. Beggin had 10 points at the break and finished with 19 points, including five 3-pointers.
Brandi Kimble chipped in eight rebounds and six points in the first half.
In tonight's other tournament game, Northwestern defeated Dayton 76-70 in overtime. The two teams were tied 66-all after regulation.
Heralded recruit Amy Jaeschke led the Wildcats with 19 points. The 6-foot-5 freshman center also had four rebounds and three blocked shots. Senior Sara Stutz added 15 points and five assists. Kaitlin McInerney and Nadia Bibbs each had eight rebounds for Northwestern.
Jaeschke was a McDonald's High School All-American and was a member of the USA Basketball U19 World Championship team.
Dayton's Brittany Holterman connected on 8-of-13 shots to finish with a game-high 20 points. Nikki Oakland added a game-high nine rebounds and has seven points. Kiki Lund was the only other Flyer to score in double figures, with 13 points.
The Lobos will face Dayton at 8 p.m. on Saturday and Northwestern at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Last year, UNM played in the Women's Sports Foundation Tournament at Arizona State. The Lobos defeated Florida Atlantic but lost to host ASU and Nebraska.
