A driver was so enraged about being cut off in traffic that, claiming to be a police officer, he ordered the other motorist off the road and assaulted him with a golf club, Albuquerque police say.

David Sedillo, 47, told police he had drunk five beers before the incident, according to a Metro Court criminal complaint filed Sunday. He was charged with three counts of aggravated assault.

According to the complaint, a man identified as Brian de Jesus and his 13- and 5-year-old sons were on their way to buy school supplies Thursday when they noticed Sedillo in another vehicle yelling at them to pull over.

They pulled into the parking lot of a dollar store on Candelaria Road Northwest, and Sedillo emerged from his truck with the golf club, the de Jesuses and another witness say.

Sedillo again identified himself as an officer and said he "should kill" the other driver, the complaint says.

After Sedillo threatened to smash out the windows, de Jesus said he rolled down his window and tried to apologize, at which point Sedillo tried to hit him with the club, the complaint says.

A struggle ensued, the club was broken in half, and Sedillo tried to stab de Jesus with the piece he was still holding, the complaint says.

The fight continued until Albuquerque police arrived, and de Jesus suffered a possible broken arm, the complaint says.

Sedillo told police he was upset because he'd been cut off in traffic and believed the older de Jesus boy had challenged him.
