It might not be as glamorous as the world of chick lit where she roosts now, but the author of "Dirty Girls Social Club" says she might want to join Congress.
Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, whose other books are "Playing With Boys," "Haters" and "Make Him Look Good," says she's "testing the waters" to run for New Mexico's 1st Congressional District.
"That's the district manhandled by Heather Wilson (aka W's mini-me) for so many years," Valdes-Rodriguez wrote on her blog, Alisavaldesrodriguez.blogspot.com.
"Now, another Bushie wants the gig. Por favor. Enough of that, I say Ya! The good news? Polls show that the person with the best shot in CD-1 is a Hispanic woman Democrat. Check, check, triple check. Buenisimo," she wrote.
Already, Valdes-Rodriguez is soliciting money on her blog for a potential campaign.
Attempts to reach Valdes-Rodriguez on Monday were unsuccessful. She did not immediately respond to an e-mail inquiry.
Valdes-Rodriguez is 38 and lives in Albuquerque, according to her MySpace page. Her profile on Blogger.com, however, lists her residence as Scottsdale, Ariz.
Valdes-Rodriguez is a former arts editor at The Tribune who also worked at the Boston Globe and the Los Angeles Times.
Democrats Martin Heinrich, Michelle Lujan Grisham, Jon Adams and Jason Call already are running for the seat, which Wilson is leaving to seek a seat in the U.S. Senate.
Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White is seeking the Republican nomination. State Sen. Joe Carraro, an Albuquerque Republican, is scheduled to announce his candidacy Thursday.
