"Criminal Minds" (8 p.m., KRQE News 13) without Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin) is still an alright way to pass the time.

His replacement, Special Agent David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), is even a nice change of pace, despite his non-group-think way of doing things.

Rossi's fellow FBI profilers, with the exception of Hotch (Thomas Gibson), look at him like he's kind of a rock star in the behavioral analysis world, given his considerable background in the field.

His gruff mannerisms promise to start ticking more than a few people off real soon though.

Tonight, "Malcolm in the Middle" star Frankie Muniz is a famous comic-book artist who helps Morgan (Shemar Moore), Spencer (Matthew Gray Gubler) and the rest of the team investigate gang-related serial killings in Los Angeles.

I remember when Frankie was wee and his voice cracked every time he got upset. Now he's playing a cuckoo artist in a crime drama where people die gruesome deaths at the hands of truly deranged killers.

Sigh. Child stars should never, ever be allowed to grow up and take roles that might change my perception.

It is just plain rude.

It's way the heck too early for "Shrek the Halls" (7 p.m., KOAT-Channel 7).

This half-hour animated special should be airing two or three weeks from now, not less than a week after Thanksgiving.

The coolest ogre ever, Shrek, feels my pain.

He thought he could finally sit back, relax and enjoy his happily ever after with his new family. That was all until the most joyous of all holidays arrived.

It's Christmas Eve and everyone is filled with holiday cheer, except for Shrek.

He isn't exactly the poster child for yuletide joy, but for the sake of Fiona and his kiddies, Shrek attempts to get into the spirit of the holidays.

Unfortunately, everyone seems to have their own ideas about what Christmas is all about, so when Donkey, Puss In Boots, Gingy and the whole gang try to join in on the fun, Shrek's plans for a cozy family celebration end up spiraling out of control.

Bah, humbug.
