"Private Practice" (8 p.m., KOAT-Channel 7) is no "Grey's Anatomy," but I like it anyway.

It was pretty slow at first. Yet as time goes on, the writers seem to be making big strides in the funny department and in making me care more about these people.

Besides, Addison (Kate Walsh) is a fantabulous character regardless of her location or colleagues, and I would happily follow her anywhere.

Fortunately, the talented OB-GYN/neo-natal surgeon has landed in a medical practice with some other talented and attractive doctors, my favorite of whom is Violet (Amy Brenneman, "Judging Amy").

Violet's a psychiatrist, but she's got lots and lots of issues of her own. This is a woman who has no problem stalking the urine sample of her ex-boyfriend's new wife, if that tells you anything. Fortunately, her professional life is in better shape than her personal one.

The center's resident pediatrician, Dr. Cooper Freedman (Paul Adelstein, "Prison Break"), has feelings for Violet but has yet to profess his undying love to her. That's because when he attempted to do so, she used that particular moment to continue her obsession with the ex.

These two have a much more awesome chemistry than the one that is being forced on us in the form of Addison and Pete (Tim Daly, "Wings"), the alternative medicine specialist.

They're both exceptionally pleasing to the eye, but the mojo just ain't there. Move on along now.

Tonight, Addison can't stop thinking of Pete, despite being encouraged to channel her energies elsewhere.

Then Violet's ex visits the clinic, and Cooper is so not happy to see him.

Naomi (Audra McDonald) and Sam's (Taye Diggs, "Daybreak") daughter Maya seeks Addison's medical advice without telling her parents.

That's not going to end well for anyone, although I am looking forward to Naomi's smackdown on Addison. Bring on the drama, mama.

Criss Angel isn't satisfied with being on cable, so now the needy illusionist is making his way to network TV with the new reality show "Phenomenon" (7 p.m., KOB-Channel 4).

He and mentalist Uri Geller will conduct an intensive search for the next great expert in their field. The show features the 10 candidates competing live against one another each week by demonstrating a wide spectrum of talents for a panel of celebrity guests. Together, Geller and Angel will assess the contestants' talents each week. But viewers decide which one of these folks walks away with $250,000.

First "Deal or No Deal" and now this? I think someone at NBC must hate me.
