The Linz has been bombarded by hate mail.
Again.
Naturally, the first vicious attack on The Linz's character came from Louis Sacco, a teacher over at Albuquerque High, who every five years or so gets to rub a Bulldog victory into someone's face.
The rub this time came from the 'Dogs stunning victory over Class 4A bully Del Norte. The face this time was the handsome mug worn by The Linz.
The Linz is hoping that maybe the 'Dogs get to play Menaul this season, so Sacco can have another moment of glory in 2007.
The Linz's face would be available again, too, because ain't no way The Linz would pick the 'Dogs to beat Menaul.
The Great One also got some nasty correspondence from some despondent New Mexico State Aggies who thought The Linz's Aggie jokes were "sophomoric, uncalled for and tasteless."
And what's your point?
Must be first-time readers.
There was even a Lobos fan annoyed that The Linz suggested a dog's IQ was 30 points higher than an Aggie's IQ.
"It's only about 20 points higher," said the Lobo. "Get your facts straight."
The Linz concedes that possibility.
It was a pretty dumb dog.
The Linz roared to a 16-4 mark last week and sits 20-8 on the season. Here are The Linz Gems for this week:
Valley by 7 over Rio Grande - 7 tonight, Milne: The Linz can think of two good reasons not to leave his easy chair tonight to see this game. 1. Valley's defense. 2. Rio Grande's offense.
Manzano by 14 over Del Norte - 7 tonight, Wilson: The Linz can think of only one reason to catch this game at Wilson. It's not Milne.
La Cueva by 14 over Eldorado - 7 p.m. Friday, Wilson: The Linz hears that Maller coach Fred Romero is planning to open up his offensive playbook tonight and take out all the stops. The Linz figures that means Romero will run left and right, instead of just right.
Cibola by 21 over St. Pius X - 7 p.m. Friday, Wilson: The last time The Linz went to confessional over at Pius, the priest was pretty hard on The Great One. The Linz's punishment was a season's pass to AHS Bulldog football.
Gallup by 20 over Albuquerque High - 7 p.m. Friday: The Linz hears that in the New Mexico pen, the prisoners are given a choice of watching an AHS football game or getting locked in solitary confinement for two weeks. The Linz hears there is a waiting list for solitary confinement and a lot of broken TV sets in the lounge.
Artesia by 14 over Rio Rancho - 7 p.m. Friday: Have the Lambs ever beaten a team south of Belen? If not, that streak won't be broken here.
ARIZONA by 10 over UNM - 8 p.m. Saturday: The Linz thinks it's a good thing these two teams no longer play for an antique rifle. The Lobos already have something old that doesn't work very well - their offense.
