LOBOS
Junior QB Donovan Porterie
Porterie has to make sure the offense continues its steady improvement and avoid turnovers. It seems like an easy task against Sacramento State, but the Hornets have forced four fumbles in two games and boast one of the best Division I-AA playmakers in Cyrus Mulitano.
Freshman CB Jerome Jenkins
Jenkins survived a trial by fire against Arizona's spread offense, but he will be tested again this week. Sacramento State senior receiver Ryan Coogler is the offense's best option and ranks eighth on the school's all-time receptions list with 87 catches.
HORNETS
Freshman QB Jason Smith
It's tough for a freshman to succeed against the Lobos' defense. Smith tossed an interception that was returned for a touchdown last week against Portland State and is in for more headaches against UNM's aggressive defense.
Senior NT Dallas Mauga
Mauga, who earned preseason All-Big Sky Conference honors, has to help hold the line against bruising UNM runner Rodney Ferguson and find ways to apply pass pressure or the Lobos will pile up points on the Hornets.
