High Schools: Tribune Power Rankings
The metro area's top teams, by sport, according to high school reporter James Staley. For more information on the rankings, go to the "High School Sports" blog.
Boys basketball
1. Highland
2. Los Lunas
3. St. Pius X
4. Cibola
5. La Cueva
Trib says: Highland earned a convincing district win over Los Lunas earlier this week. The Hive's one-two punch of Chad Adams and Xavier Blount each scored 21 points. Scary combination. St. Pius X and Cibola hopped over La Cueva because they are more consistent than the Bears.
Girls basketball
1. La Cueva
2. St. Pius X
3. Moriarty
4. Rio Rancho
5. Cibola
Trib says: Unlike the boys, La Cueva's girls might be the city's most consistent team. The Sartans handed Moriarty only its second loss, so they moved up. Rio Rancho might be the hottest team coming off a big win over Cibola. Don't expect the Cougars to be down for long; they're too talented. When Skye Barnett returns from a back injury, they should be better.
