SAN DIEGO A defense contractor was been sentenced to 12 years in prison Tuesday for bribing a congressman with cash, meals, trips and other gifts in exchange for nearly $90 million in Pentagon work.
A jury convicted 53-year-old Brent Wilkes in November on 13 counts of bribery, conspiracy and wire fraud involving former California Republican Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham.
Prosecutors say Wilkes lavished Cunningham with more than $700,000 in perks - everything from cash to submachine gun shooting lessons and prostitutes at a Hawaiian resort.
