Piper cometh? State officials had expected to hear by the end of the year whether Piper Aircraft would choose to leave its Vero Beach, Fla., home for Albuquerque or Oklahoma City. A Piper spokesman said there's no news.
Fast mover: Eclipse Aviation entered the year proclaiming itself the fastest general aviation manufacturer to build 100 planes. Eclipse completed 103 in 2007, while previous record-holder Cessna produced 100 Citation 550s over 18 months.
Building slowdown: Only 170 building permits were issued for new homes in the metro area in November, according to latest release by DataTraq. That's a big drop from November 2006, which saw 352 permits.
Price drop: PNM last week reported that the January natural gas price will be 3.3 percent less per therm than a year ago. The average consumer will see a monthly bill of $125.62.
Good grade: Albuquerque's FBT Architects received Southwest Contractors' New Mexico Best of 2007 K-12 Project award for its work on Ventana Ranch Elementary.
Sacred solar: Sacred Power Corp. has installed the state's largest photovoltaic array. The 70kw solar electric array is at the Southwest Indian Polytechnic Institute on the West Side.
Media meet: The UNM ARTS Lab on Saturday will host the fourth annual N.M. Media Industries Conference featuring the worlds of film, animation, games, education, research and technology development. Biz buy: The median asking price to purchase an Albuquerque small business hit $297,000 in the fourth quarter of 2007, according to a report from BizBuySell.com. That's up from the third-quarter median price of $259,500.
Exhibiting change: The 16-year-old Albuquerque Home Remodeling and Furnishing Show has been renamed the Albuquerque Home and Lifestyle Show. It will now showcase fitness, recreation, leisure and travel exhibitors with an eye on attracting the baby boomer market. Lucas Productions will produce shows at Expo New Mexico in February and October.
Finance boss: Santa Ana Star Casino has promoted Nan Evans to chief financial officer. She joined the casino in July 2006 and served as the casino's controller overseeing the accounting department.
