FARMINGTON The San Juan County Sheriff's Department has identified a woman killed on U.S. 550 south of here as an employee of the state Parks Division.
Authorities said Jessica Terrell, 30, was headed to San Juan County to conduct a training session when the crash happened Wednesday night.
She lost control of the pickup truck she was driving on an icy patch of road. The truck spun into the opposite lane and into the path of a semi-trailer.
State Parks Director Dave Simon said in a statement Thursday that Terrell, the state's trail coordinator, "was a fantastic person much loved by her family, friends and colleagues."
The other driver, 43-year-old James Campbell, told authorities he slowed down and moved to the right when he saw the pickup's headlights and taillights spinning toward him but he was unable to avoid the collision.
