Highly touted freshman Herb Pope is expected to debut tonight for the New Mexico State men's basketball team after being granted an eligibility waiver by the NCAA and sitting out one game as punishment for a late-December DWI arrest.
Also back on the team is 6-10 center Hatlia Passos, who missed the last six games for academic reasons.
The 6-foot-8 Pope, a versatile forward, averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds as a senior at Aliquippa High in Pennsylvania. He was one of the nation's top recruits last season.
He chose New Mexico State over Cincinnati, Kansas State, Louisville, Maryland, Memphis, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh and Texas.
The eligibility question centered on an alternative education program Pope took in high school.
