Kate Nelson is The Tribune's managing editor and writes a column every other week. A Kansas City native, she began covering politics for The Tribune in 1989 and later served as a city-desk editor, editorial writer, gardening columnist and city columnist. She is in the Scripps Howard Hall of Fame for writing and, in 2001, was named one of New Mexico's outstanding women by the Governor's Commission on the Status of Women. Nelson also is a contributing blogger to Bill Richardson's Bits
